Denza is BYD’s premium, technology-focused brand — originally founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler, now fully under BYD’s ownership. Unlike BYD’s mainstream models, Denza is pitched directly against Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi, and launched in the UK during 2026 following its European debut in Paris earlier that year.

Denza Models Available in the UK

  • Z9 GT — Denza’s UK flagship and launch model, an electric shooting-brake rivalling the Porsche Taycan and Panamera. The EV version starts at £105,000, using a tri-motor setup producing 1,140-1,156bhp, 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds, and up to 373 miles WLTP range from a 122kWh Blade Battery. A plug-in hybrid version (Z9 GT DM) starts at £95,000, with 776hp and up to roughly 500 miles combined range. Both use BYD’s Flash Charging tech, capable of up to 1,500kW — a 10-97% charge in as little as 9 minutes.
  • D9 — a seven-seat luxury plug-in hybrid MPV, from £75,000 (Ultimate trim from £85,000), positioned against the Lexus LM and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz VLE, and roughly £23,000 cheaper than the Lexus. Features a 58.5kWh battery with up to 130 miles of electric-only range, plus reclining massage seats and rear entertainment screens on higher trims.

Why Buyers Might Consider Denza

Denza’s core pitch is premium performance and technology at prices still meaningfully below equivalent Porsche, Mercedes, or Lexus models, backed by BYD’s in-house battery and charging technology — the Flash Charging system in particular is a genuine differentiator, faster than anything currently offered by German luxury rivals.

Reliability & Ownership

As a brand-new UK entrant with six-figure pricing on its flagship model, Denza has no UK ownership track record, and reviewers have noted the market’s general reluctance to embrace big-money EVs from unproven brands. It benefits, however, from BYD’s broader manufacturing scale and battery expertise.
