Part of our full guide to [Chinese Car Brands in the UK]

Changan is one of China’s oldest and largest carmakers, selling more than 2.7 million vehicles worldwide in 2024 alone. It entered the UK in 2025 under Deepal, its dedicated electric-vehicle sub-brand (cars are badged “Changan Deepal” here), backed by a UK R&D base in Birmingham and a design studio in Turin, Italy. Changan has committed to investing €2 billion in Europe by 2030 and plans to launch eight electric models across Europe by 2027.
Changan Deepal Models Available in the UK
- Deepal S07 — the brand’s first UK model, a large 4.7m electric family SUV rivalling the Tesla Model Y, Skoda Enyaq, and Hyundai IONIQ 5. From £39,990 in a single high-spec trim, with 215bhp, rear-wheel drive, a panoramic glass roof, and heated/cooled seats as standard. Reviewers rate it as stylish and well-equipped but note average range and slow 93kW peak charging compared to rivals.
- Deepal S05 — a smaller electric SUV rivalling the Kia EV3, launched from £37,990 (RWD) or £39,990 (AWD). Both use a 68.8kWh LFP battery, with up to 303 miles WLTP range on the RWD version. The AWD variant cuts 0-62mph to 5.5 seconds. Both carry a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and a 7-year/100,000-mile vehicle warranty plus an 8-year/124,000-mile battery warranty.
What’s Next for Changan Deepal
Changan has confirmed three more European model launches through 2026 and a further three in 2027, working toward eight electric models by 2027. These are expected to include the larger Changan E07 and premium models under Changan’s separate Avatr brand. A related model, the Mazda CX-6e, is also arriving in the UK later in 2026 — it’s mechanically based on the Deepal S07 through a joint development between Mazda and Changan.
Why Buyers Choose Changan Deepal
The core appeal is sub-£40k pricing for a well-equipped, large-format EV — both S07 and S05 duck just under the UK’s expensive car VED supplement threshold, saving owners over £400 a year in road tax. Standard equipment levels are generous even by Chinese-brand standards.
Reliability & Ownership
As a brand-new UK entrant, Changan Deepal has no long-term ownership data yet — reviewers have flagged this explicitly as an unknown. The dealer network is expanding quickly, growing from 20 to a planned 60 sites within its first year.
